Everyday Health Apps
LEAD PRODUCT DESIGNER
Overview
I’ve been a Principal Product Designer at Ziff & Davis, working within their Everyday Health Group. This division stands at the forefront of modern digital health and wellness, offering resources that empower people worldwide to take control of their health journeys.
Since 2022, our mobile team has been supporting four brands and apps - Lose It!, the Cleveland Clinic Diet, the Challenges app, and the DailyOM brand. I’ve been wearing multiple hats, from leading UX and UI design, branding, graphic design, and mentoring junior designers.
Lose It! - Smarter Food Logging with AI
In 2024, we introduced several new features for Lose It!, focusing on AI integration to make food logging faster and more efficient. Our goal is to reduce the time users spend manually entering each meal item, allowing them to track their food seamlessly.
With AI-powered advancements, users can now log meals in seconds:
Snap It! – A quick photo of a meal allows the app to recognize and log it automatically, eliminating manual entry.
Voice Logging – Our AI-driven speech-to-text feature delivers 98% accuracy, enabling users to log meals simply by speaking.
Enhanced Barcode Scanner – We improved accuracy and speed, making it even easier to scan packaged foods.
These innovations streamline food tracking, making it effortless and more intuitive for users to stay on top of their health goals.
Smarter Food Logging with AI at Lose It!: Snap It!, Voice Logging, and Enhanced Barcode Scanner
Lose It! Voice Logging is part of a larger shift toward voice-driven interactions, making technology more intuitive, accessible, and human-centric. By allowing members to log their meals using just their voice, we’re simplifying the process—especially for those who find traditional interfaces challenging.
One of the most exciting design challenges has been teaching users how to interact with AI effectively. Since this is a first-generation feature, we focused on creating a seamless and intuitive user experience.
Key design elements include:
Clear guidance – Informational text helps users format their voice entries correctly.
Real-time feedback – An animated circle visually responds to the user’s voice volume.
Confirmation cues – Users receive visual feedback on what’s being logged, ensuring accuracy.
By prioritizing simplicity and usability, we’re making AI-powered food logging more approachable and effortless for everyone.
Our Voice Logging feature has been recognized across the industry and featured on major platforms like CNN Health. A highlight was CNN’s closing line:
"The goal is to bring mindfulness and awareness to the center of the stage."
This recognition underscores our mission to make nutrition tracking effortless, intuitive, and mindful.

In 2024, our team introduced the Snap It feature to make tracking meals even more effortless. With Snap It, members can simply take or upload a photo of their meal, and the app will automatically recognize the food and log the calories and macros—no need to speak or search manually.
To ensure a seamless user experience, we designed the interface to be intuitive and visually guided, making the process quick and frustration-free.
Lose It! Courses
Since 2008, Lose It! has been the go-to app for tracking meals, exercise, and weight management. In 2023, we expanded beyond tracking by launching our first-ever mindful eating and nutrition courses—a curated collection of four expert-led courses, available with or without a Premium subscription.
By partnering with real users and top nutrition podcasters, we created content that’s both insightful and engaging. To enhance the experience, course banners were designed to match each author’s branding, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing presentation.
This milestone brings a holistic approach to wellness, helping users build better habits and a deeper understanding of nutrition—all within the Lose It! ecosystem.

We put a lot of care into crafting a UI and UX that makes accessing courses effortless and intuitive across iOS and Android. Our branding and design approach focuses on clarity and visual distinction, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience.
To achieve this, we developed a clean, cohesive design system that includes:
Color-coded courses for easy navigation
Unique banners and artwork that enhance branding and visual appeal
A flexible system that allows for quick updates as we expand our course offerings
More than just aesthetics, this design approach ensures a seamless user experience while strengthening brand identity, making each course instantly recognizable and engaging.

Lose It! Creative Direction
In addition to shipping new UX/UI features every six weeks, I also contribute to branding and marketing projects. In 2025, we're wrapping up the Lose It! design system and branding guide update, ensuring a more cohesive and polished brand experience.
On the marketing side, I create assets for:
Blog posts and social media
App Store visuals and in-app promos
Website design and more
One example is my work on banners for AI features in Lose It!, along with a quick overview video to showcase their impact. It’s exciting to shape the visual identity and storytelling that brings our product to life!

The Cleveland Clinic Diet App
In 2023, our Everyday Health mobile team partnered with Cleveland Clinic, one of the most respected academic medical centers in the world, to create the Cleveland Clinic Diet app. Using Lose It! as a foundation, we worked closely with their product and design team to build an app that goes beyond calorie tracking—offering customized health plans and expert nutrition guidance to help users reach their wellness goals.
Collaborating with Cleveland Clinic’s creative team, we set out to design a cohesive and engaging experience across all platforms. Together, we developed a comprehensive design system and branding guide, carefully selecting the right typography, color palettes, and UI elements for iOS, Android, and the Web. The result? A polished, user-friendly app that feels intuitive, professional, and uniquely Cleveland Clinic—helping users take their health journey to the next level.
Snapshot of the Cleveland Clinic Diet Brand Guide & Design System
A key part of my role in the Cleveland Clinic Diet app was designing seamless, user-friendly experiences across both iOS and Android. This involved:
Reskinning existing Lose It! screens to align with Cleveland Clinic’s branding
Crafting and refining a new onboarding flow for a smoother first-time user experience
Introducing AI-powered features like Voice Logging and Snap It, allowing users to log meals effortlessly by speaking or taking a photo
Beyond app design, I also worked on marketing assets, including:
Web pages to showcase the app
App Store visuals for a compelling first impression
Promo materials to support outreach and engagement

The Challenges App & Apple Collaboration
One of the exciting brands we support at Everyday Health is the Challenges app, a platform that transforms health goals into a fun, competitive adventure. With seamless Apple Health integration, Challenges creates an engaging and interactive experience, making wellness feel more like a game than a routine.
In 2023, we took this to the next level with an exclusive collaboration with Apple, launching the Mindful Eatwell Challenge on iOS—designed just for Apple employees. This challenge introduces a unique, science-backed approach to mindful eating, helping users develop savor, sense, and satisfy skills to build healthier habits. As a UX designer, I had the exciting opportunity to design and optimize the experience for Apple Watch, ensuring a smooth and intuitive interaction directly from the wrist.

Additionally, I led a redesign of key iOS screens, refining the UI to align with Apple’s design standards and drawing inspiration from the Apple Fitness app to create a more polished and intuitive user experience.

Working on Challenges has been an incredible opportunity to blend behavioral psychology, gamification, and user-centered design—helping people stay engaged and motivated on their health journey.
Key Insights
Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of designing digital experiences that help people make more intentional choices. At Lose It!, I worked on AI-powered food logging to make tracking effortless, while also shaping the branding and design system that will carry the app into the future. With the Cleveland Clinic Diet app, I collaborated with a world-renowned medical institution to create an educational, research-backed health platform. And with the Challenges app, I helped design an experience that makes wellness fun—especially through the Mindful Eatwell Challenge for Apple employees.
Beyond features and screens, what excites me most is crafting experiences that empower people—whether it's helping them build healthier habits, fostering self-awareness, or designing seamless interactions that remove friction from their journey.
This journey has reinforced something I’ve always believed: Great design is about making mindful decisions, whether in fashion, health, or tech. Finding the hidden thread between these seemingly different worlds has been the most rewarding part of all.
